About Upohar
Set amidst lush green surroundings, Upohar Luxury Apartments has been designed by legendary architect, Balkrishna V Doshi - the only Indian to have received the prestigious Pritzker Prize (considered the ‘Nobel Prize for Architecture’) till date. With magnificent views of green spaces, and five large and deep natural water bodies (hence the name Pancha-Sayar) surrounding it, this gated neighbourhood is arguably one of the most beautiful and exclusive, upmarket residential complexes in Kolkata.
Location
Located off eastern metropolitan bypass at Chawkgaria (within half a kilometre from the Kavi Subhash metro station) in South Kolkata, Upohar is within 3 kms from the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, and preeminent super-speciality hospitals such as Medica, Peerless and R.N. Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, to name a few.
Amenities
Spread over 19 acres, Upohar comes with an exquisitely landscaped central lush green area (representing 80% of the gated area), with a vast diversity of ornamental shrubs, creepers and dense mature trees. In addition, the complex boasts of: a 500 meter circular joggers’ track skirted with bronze sculptures of outstanding aesthetic value; an open-air theatre; a fishpond; outdoor play areas, including a kids’ play area and sand pit; stepped seating; and seating under trees. The landscape design is bold and creative, with the large central green space creating a salubrious microclimate, thereby allowing nature to form the core of the Upohar experience.
Green by design
The flowing central green area (with a large patch of dense trees, almost resembling a mini forest), and the meandering peripheral layout of the buildings provide a sense of surprise in every turn, while maintaining a sense of visual integrity and continuity. This provides relief from monotony that daily life may present, while providing the opportunity to experience the expanse of the place. The area offers different niches for individuals, as well as small or large group to engage in different activities.
Facilities
Upohar hosts 587 luxurious, beautiful and comfortable apartments (1,200 to 5,500 square feet) that take into consideration elements of surrounding nature, and marries form with function. The distinctive signature of Architect Balkrishna V Doshi is apparent by the seamless integration of the inside with the outside - a harmony between built up space and nature. Each tower and each apartment has generous balconies, and is oriented in order to maximize the flow of light and air, which creates a positive and conducive environment for healthy living. The entire complex is permeated with a design aesthetic that is rooted in nature, and in modern Indian sensibility. The philosophy is of inclusion and harmony that not only provides joy and comfort to residents, but also the potential to transform oneself.
Every tower has a resident’s activity room, and Tower 1 and 11, known as ‘Gold Towers’, have exclusive private recreational centre (PRC) that includes a lounging area for small get-togethers; guest rooms; conference room; and a small home theatre. All towers have landscaped podium terraces accessible by lifts. A bridge and a ramp from the podium terraces provide pedestrian access (via the activity room) to the central green without having to cross the driveway. The complex comes with surface and basement car parking, to meet the needs of residents and guests alike. Apart from piped gas, there is an RO water treatment plant to meet the drinking water needs of residents. In addition, Upohar comes with premium amenities like robust safety and security system, CCTV surveillance, earthquake resistant infrastructure and layout, and very importantly, energy efficient lighting and design.
